Ma and I hooked on the camper on Tuesday and got out of town for a little camping. We went to Van Buren County Iowa and stayed in a wonderful county park right on Sugema Lake. We arrived to find every site open except that that the park host was using. Talk about peaceful camping.
We took a couple little tours while there….one for some boomers in Missouri and another to Cantril and the Dutchman’s Marketplace, an Amish/Mennonite run general store that sells largely in bulk and has prices on food like one cannot believe….try 3-1 pound packages of thick cut John Morrel bacon for $4.99. We saw people with multiple carts that had groceries that totaled over $500.00 dollars! The place is amazing and while we’ve been there on several occasions its still something to stop into to check out.
Our trip wasn’t near long enough but the quiet was wonderful. The lake offered a ton of fishing on its 500+ acres but is no-wake all the time so boat noise just never happened. Lots of wildlife was to be watched and we even had a bobcat come out of the woods and play hide and seek with Carole. Bird sang from 4AM well into dark. It was amazing. We had a nice seat on our site that let us watch the lake and the evening breeze each evening and while they can’t be seen to easy in the picture our favorite place to watch was straight across the lake in that nice hillside meadow at the deer that came out and grazed their way to wherever. Its was a great trip.
