I’ve been given the go ahead from the boss to get a Marcum LX-5 and looked at Fleet Farm and they were out. What’s the normal price range and does anyone know where they can be found in the Hudson/Twin Cities area?

Like Jason said Sheels has them for 399.00. I talked to a salesman on Sunday and he said that price will only be good for a few more weeks. I’m getting mine from Cabela’s online after Christmas. It will be 449.00 plus shipping. Sucks for me but I just have to wait until then. I need a new anchor and that’s all the boss would approve. I should be getting a bunch of Cabela’s gift cards for Christmas if things pan out so it won’t cost me much after that.

Fleet farm is generally not a good place to find the lx-5, they normally have plenty of vexilars though… Somebody said the retail on them this year is $449, so do not spend anymore than that. I got mine for 299.99 this spring, but I would think that $399 scheels deal is about as good as you will find at this time of the year. Reedssports has free shipping, and they are 449.99 if you want to go that route.

Got mine a month ago at Iowa City Scheels $399.Was there a week ago and the pile was getting thin.Don’t know what new stock will be.They also had a few LX-I units for $59.99 case was $9.99 more.Don’t know if I needed one,but I got one Thought it might come in handy for shooting thru the ice,and putting out fish structures.Sounds like the Ice Show is the place to be.It’s about 61/2 hour drive for me and our 2nd gun season for deer.First season deer were in the unpicked corn, saw two does in three days.If I do good Thursday or Friday might try for a bonzi run.If you want to plan ahead the show seems to be weekend after thanksgiving every year.Same as our 2nd gun season.

If you have not opened a Scheels credit card you can get 0% financing for 6 months and a couple $25 gift cards with that purchase and any other purchase (lets say a pack of gum), spin the wheel and you might get anywhere from $10-50 more off. Then the card adds two more years onto your warranty….

What kind of warranty will there be on the unit if purchased on craigslist? If a new one can be picked up for 399.00 -449.00 that comes with a warranty I would want the warranty. Not saying a guy can’t find some deals on craigslist, but my confidence would be much higher buying from a retailer.

With that kind of investment I would go new for sure not only for the warranty but you never know how someone took care of a Marcum when buying from C.L.

People are selling new ones that they bought for $299 this spring, stocked up on them and are selling them. I do not think you have to worry about a warranty, they never asked me about proof of purchase when I had my LX-3 in for service.

This is off topic, but does anybody else think its a pain to have to scroll down your zoom window everytime when you switch to zoom mode? And Is there a way to make it not beep like crazy when you do it? Are they all like that? I thought it would make a lot more sense for them to be designed with the zoom window on the bottom automatically, since that is the usual area that you zoom in on anyway. Just wondering…

Red….good question. The reason for the adjustable zoom is to start on the top of the water column and adjust wherever you want within that column. Bottom locking zoom like on VX-1 stays put on the bottom. I would imagine that it has something to do with the engineering of the flasher board and its components to start the zoom at the 12 oclock position vs the on the bottom. Obviously you fish in different depths, also may be why you start the zoom at the 12 oclock position. As far as the beeping noise when you move the zoom….guess I really never noticed. Usually set the zoom the first hole I fish and its set for most of the day. Also if your using the 5 or 10 foot zoom window I believe it takes seconds to zoom down to wherever you need to be, I would think that if the zoom started on the bottom and worked back up it would be about the same time and same principle. I am sure it all has to with the technology of the way these units are engineered and designed.
