I think it’ll be sometime this weekend that I put the deer hunting stuff away (or at least to the side), and pull out my ice-fishing gear. Usually I just sit on the floor and surround myself with it, like a kid on Christmas morning.

In all seriousness though, now is the time to start taking inventory. Not on just what new items you need, but on what needs repair or replacement. If you’re like me, you say you’ll worry about it next year.

Retailers will be holding ice-events soon, displays are already changing. Not to mention, the St. Paul Ice show is about 3 weeks away. If there was ever a time to comparison shop, as questions, and secure a good deal, it’s then.

So, check out the Marcum batteries and disconnect the LX-5 from the boat, pull the Otter out of storage and look for mice-damage, and fill that propane tank now while you remember to do it.

This warm weather is really a bummer. I was hoping to be on some smaller ponds by Turkey day

    Joel is right,

The dude that relaxes right now is going to be the same dude that drives by the lake and sees Joel or I on it already

Head up north for the opener WI deer season next week. Looks like I am going to have to leave the ice fishing gear behind I love it when we get to hit first ice on Mid Eau Clair for the walleyes.

The cold dreary October really got a lot of us fired up. I thought we might be on ice this week if things hadn’t changed. Either way, I will be fishing this weekend open water or ice.

    Sauger and BK:

Exceptions made for river guys…..as always.

You could practice your ice-jigging technique while you’re out there?

    It’s hard to jig with 4oz weight…but I’ll try!

Truth is, the cold snap in Oct. had me getting things together…just in case. But I’ll never admit it in public.

It could happen real fast, so Joel is right….get prepared now! In the past 7 years I’ve always ice fished by the first week of December on the big lakes around me. Hope it’s true this year. The water temps aren’t too terribly warm..

Mike and I found jigging straight over the boat Saturday produced some nice perch on Pool 8 We both thought of ice fishing right away

Really??? You’ve got to talk like that! I’m rather bummed that I’m going to be putting my firearm hunting stuff away. Hopefully I’ll be able to get out and bow hunt some more. It’s a sad day when I put the hunting gear away. Thankfully I can shoot all year long at the range.
