Ive fished Lake Pepin while there is open water, but I’ve not heard much about whether there is good ice fishing. Does it actually freeze up well enough to ice fish and if so where can you get on?

I have had fair to good luck at what they call trailer park point which is north of the down town marina. some eyes, pannies and some perch.

Maybe if TC sees this post he let you know better, I believe he knows the area well during the ice season.

The lake freezes almost completely and you can find quite a number of popular spots for ice angling. Frontenac, Hok-si-la, Lake City’s trailer point all are common community areas.

I always wait until ice sets up to see where safe travel can be found. There are a few areas that will offer some pretty decent fishing but if the ice isn’t safe for vehicle travel, these places can be a long walk. Some can be worth the walk. I make it a habit to NOT be the trail blazer on Pepin though.

When’s the last time someone broke through and was lost under the ice? I don’t remember any reports but I have to believe someone pushed their luck too far over the years.
