Snosuit Waterproofing

I’ll likely be upgrading to the Snosuit this year but had a few questions on the waterproofing used. Technically, I don’t care as much about the specs as I do about the performance, especially in the knees and seat.

My previous bibs/coat would eventually leak, especially when kneeling on the rough/sharp ice near ice holes. What are your experiences with the Snosuits?

What about the rare situations where it’s cold enough to use it as rainwear? Rain repellent and water resistant, or all-out waterproof?

The only time I’ve ever got wet in my snosuit is when I’ve made the mistake of kneeling in “deep” slush / water on the ice and then small amounts of water seeped through the velcro and zipper along the legs. But that’s going to happen with any suit. Or at least until someone makes a suit with a water-proof zipper along the leg.

As for the water-proofing… I wore my suit all day yesterday up in Alex in a 3 hour rain and was toasty and dry. I’ve never had any issues and I do wear this garment in the rain fall – spring including one ice trip last spring when it rained for 2 days straight. I know it is intended to be a “cold weather” suit but it performs great in the rain as well.

99.9% of my ice fishing is done outside not sitting in a house. I also kneel when fishing as well. I have not had any water come through the knees. The pads are a HUGE hit in my book, that ice does wear on your knees after a day of fishing however the pads save the day.

I wore my sno suit last friday night in the mini blizzard on mille lacs trolling, I stayed dry and warm throughout the evening. I have not had the chance to test this suit in the rain.

The ONLY issue had with the sno-suit was in an all day rain while sitting in the boat. A pool would form in the crotch area then seep through the zipper…..a tad uncomfortable Other than that , dry as toast!

I ordered a set (jacket/bib) today after trolling on Mille Lacs with a wet butt a couple weeks ago – and that was only a drizzle – time to throw that outfit away…… Sure hope I never get oatmeal with the snosuit system. With two new knees, I’m going to stay warm this winter….

Probably won’t be delivered before this weekend but looks like it will be dry on Mille Lacs Saturday and Sunday nights.
