Dunn County Bluegills

I needed one last ice trip before I give the boat a work out the rest of the spring.

My buddy Chris invited me to join him on for the morning.

It’s hard to believe but there is still drivable ice on our area lakes. After the weather today, I wouldn’t advise it, but we did drive about 3/4 mile to get to our spot.

We got set up, I dropped my jig down the hole and SLAM! The drag started to cry a little and I pulled up a nice 8″+ bluegill to start my day.

The fast start didn’t keep pace, but Chris and I were able to ice a handful of very nice bluegills. The bite was very tough. A spring bobber was a necessity, not a luxury.

The hot lure of the day was a firetiger Gill Pill.

I also attached a photo of a crib. Some folks may not have seen one up close.

Good luck on your next adventure!

Not only have I not seen one, I don’t know what one is? Is this to drop through the ice for future structure? If so, nice idea.

I’m a Minnesota boy. I had never heard of a crib before moving across the border.

You are exactly right that it’s for creating structure.

Lake Wissota for instance literally has hundreds of cribs of varying age. As you can imagine they deteriorate over time.

I’m not sure why we didn’t do that in our lakes in Minnesota.

I also got out today. Between 3 of us, we kept 12 decent Gills and 2 jumbo perch. BTW, I believe it is illegal to put anything in the water in Mn. I know a guy that used to sink his christmas tree every year, it would get him a fine I do believe these days

The Wi. dnr works with lake associations and clubs to put out these cribs with the help of the public.
They are numerous lakes across the state that have all kinds of these cribs.
Great stucture and habitat for young fish hiding from the big hungry fish
Nice panfish, just put away ice gear in exchange for my boat gear.

I would love to be able to do it….. Wisc. seems to be more liberal, with their restrictions, I would also love to sit over a pile of corn and hunt deer Damn Mn regs

Probably seen you driving around up there. I was on that lake this weekend. At least it looks like the same one. Seen a few vehicles out there. I wish I had brought my ice fishing stuff with me. Looked like a nice day to be out.
