Tip Up fishing is something I have not done much of. Although I own two thermal tip ups the use on them was very limited. Steve Manning(Northern Man) and I decided to head out on the ice on Friday for the day expecting to get into some good late ice pan fishing, what happened was some GREAT late ice tip up fishing.

Steve brought a half dozen shiners with four tip ups and we quickly set them up..before the fourth one was set up we had a flag…It was like this on and off for most all day…We did manage several nice gills in the 7 to 8″ range but no real monsters…As a matter of fact if it wasn’t for the tip ups we would have moved to a new location.

Within the first 3 hours we ran out of shiners, so Steve ran back to the bait shop to resupply the bait bucket..

By days end we had several bass from 12 to 20 inches like the one Steve is holding onto..(CPR’d) and the 32″ Pike that has a date for the broiler tonight.

Thanks for a great time Steve and if the ice holds out we should do this again !!!

    Nice fish Dave.

My Dad and I stopped at the upper bay at the Dresbach dam, and while we were there 3 guys were huddled around a hole working a line through the ice. They pulled up what looked like a very nice pike, somewhere in the mid to upper teens. There’s some great tip up action to be had right now.

Just a guess, I’m too late for dinner right?

Guys, it was so nice out on Friday when Steve and I were out on the ice. I have to tip my hat to Otter Outdoors and their design of the Otter Ice Houses. I removed 4 nuts and took my shelter off of my tub. It left me my bench seat to sit on and also all the space to carry my gear with a fraction of the over all weight. I am not sure if you can do this with any other flip over type house…
