At the point many anglers put their augers away and pull the boat out of storage often marks the timeframe much of the best ice fishing takes place. Melting the snow blanket on Northern Minnesota lakes, and having mid-day water running off the hillsides CHARGES up the water again. The suddent influx of Oxygen in my mind is a key factor getting those fish on the move to pack on some lbs for the upcoming spawn. Don’t get caught putting on your own feedbag watching college basketball when you could be out during the most enjoyable Hardwater time of the year!! See ya on the water!! We’ll be the guys shoulder deep down a ice hole trying to squeeze that big girl up for a digital!!

I was out ice fishing today. This has to be the latest i’ve ever ice fished. Was really slow down here on the backwaters of the mighty mississippi but still fun and the ice probably wasnt the safest but hey it was a blast to be out in blue jeans and a sweatshirt.

It’s transition time for me, and we’re putting the boat in WI waters tomorrow for a crack at some eyes but We have been/will be hitting the ice hard now. The ice is in no danger of going out any time soon and the fishing is getting better. Still driveable pretty much all over Lake Onalaska, finding clean water has to be the key..I’m planning on ice fishing until the early 20’s of March or later depending on how good the walleye fishing is and how soon the bassy backwaters open up.

Amen Chris. I’m out in NE SD as I type. I’ll be hitting Waubay tonight, then we are going to let the bite dictate where we fish the rest of the weekend. Can’t wait to get out on the ice this afternoon. 40 degrees!!!

I’ll second the Amen! I can’t wait for March to roll around. Houses are are off, traffic is down (often non-existent) and best of all, the fish are usually biting. Just need to be sure to use extra caution as we get closer to ice out!
