I am planning on heading out towards the island on south prior on Sat morning. Probably going out before sunrise. Anyone else been out yet this year, do I need to worry about the ice? Or should I wait until light?
Careful around ANY shallow water near the islands always, I fished a spot in 6-7′ of water south of picnic island ( I think that’s what it’s called) one weekend it was 5 inches or nice clear ice, next weekend it was open, yeah there was some warmer weather, but I would avoid walking on any areas that get shallow around any islands. I’d also be careful if you were to try and venture into Candy Cove or anywhere with some narrows.
Haven’t been out this year, just from some past experince so I can’t speak of the ice this year, I’ll bet there be people out.
