If you want the tank to fill all the way you have to put the 1# tank in the freezer and have the 20# tank room temp. the difference in temp will pull the liquid propane into the 1# tank before it has time to fill with gas.
the tanks are only good for a max of 3-4 refills after that you start to push your luck with leaks
