Rusted guides on jig poles

Just brought my jigging poles in to put some new line on and I realized that the guides on two of my poles were rusted up a bit. Both poles are only a year old, so I was pretty disappointed. Should I junk them and just buy a couple new ones that have different material in the guides, or try to clean them up? I figured even the little bit of rust would end up chewing up my line. I guess this is something for everyone to consider when buying poles, I never thought of it before.

haha.. yeah beer and brat grease I could handle. One is a frabill glacier and one is a HT Iceman. they both have metal guides, and the guides on the Ht have a lot more rust and corrosion than the frabill. Yeah there are reels on then, but those are fine, and I can take them off and put them on new poles obviously….

if it’s the hardened metal guides you can try to sand the rust off with 3000 grit wet sand paper but it’s probably a lost cause

Cut them off and tie on new ones.

That’s a lot of work for a cheap rod
