Just in time for the night bite and then, ICE!
Here’s the folks from the Red Door Resort to tell you all a bit about they’re little slice of heaven on The Big Pond, Lake Mille Lacs!
We’re excited about our new venture with In-Depth Outdoors. We’ve owned The Red Door Resort since 1991. At that time, we had a RV park, bar/restaurant and ice fishing business. Our daughter and son-in-law graciously ran our business until we decided to make a permanent move to Mille Lacs in 1994, from the Twin Cities area. At that time, our son, Sam who was three and our son, Danny who was nine months old made the move with us. We’ve not looked back! We built our ten room motel so we had something to keep us busy. It has kept us very busy over the past several years! Over the years, we tore down the bar/restaurant and built four cabins, we added a fish house park (in a beautiful wooded area), added several RV sites, built our ice fishing business (to accommodate both privately owned and rental houses), added a lodge area, swimming area, play area for the kids and improved our protected harbor to be one of the nicest on the lake.
We’ve been fortunate to live on this beautiful lake and have come to see it as more than just a fishing lake. Mille Lacs is a perfect destination for the whole family. With that in mind, this past year we decided to eliminate our RV park and build eight new cabins. Our intent is to not only have a great place for fishermen/women to stay, but also a great place to bring the entire family! We have a five year plan, that will make The Red Door Resort maybe the finest resort on the lake.
We will continue to run our ice fishing business as usual. We seem to add privately owned houses weekly and continue to build new rental units. We plow several miles of roads, to include eight well known mud flats on the north shore. This past summer, we purchased seven more acres adjacent to our fish house park and added 24 more fish house sites. We are in the process of building a new shower house in the park.
Our sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Jim, manage the resort for us. They do a fantastic job keeping the resort clean & tidy and they are very willing to help you with any needs.
