Headed out to pool 8 this morning for a day of fishing. Justin and I were on the ice around 7:15 and had fish in our holes right away. We ended up finding a slow bite, but it almost seemed like there was no such thing as a small fish anymore. We caught a total of around 5-8 dinks all day. After locating a couple pieces of structure, we bounced back and forth between the structure catching a lot of nice quality slab crappies. These structures are wood piles that sit in 16-19′ on the edge of a drop into deeper water. The biggest fish were suspending in the 6-9 ft range, with lots of others coming in at 10-15 ft down. The biggest fish of the day was this 13″er, and there were many other 11″ers caught. Diamond jigs with pink or purple plastic were producing the fish today. We opted not to keep our first dozen or so, but then changed plans and put together a bag of 17 or 18 nice fish for my uncle who showed up a little later. Overall it was a successful outing on the ice with over 25 quality crappies caught.
