Night crawlers????

I was in the fishing section at a local Mart-Wal the other day and noticed they had a few tubs of night crawlers. I thought to myself them things gotta be pretty ripe sitting there since fall. I returned a few days later and to my suprise the fridge was stocked full . So here is my question, Has and or does anyone use nightcrawlers through the ice? I’m almost curious to try buying some just to see what happens . Thought I would check with you all before I waste the $3 or not waste it.
