The NW Angle of LOTW is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. After getting to spend a week here last June I knew this was a place I could bring my wife back to for a vacation to kick back and relax at a high quality resort and pick and choose what days we could go out and catch some walleyes..so after getting settled in to our cabin at Sunset Lodge we enjoyed dinner and a beautiful sunset.
The NW Angle of LOTW is a vacationers dream. No getting up at 4 am to get that early bite !!! We get up at 6 or 7am, get ready and go over to the lodge for a fantastic breakfast, talk about the upcoming days events and destination for our day on the lake… So getting onto the fishing part of our vacation…Lead Core trolling has to be one of the easiest and most misunderstood techniques for pulling walleyes out of 10 to 50 fow. ..
Our Sunday morning brought mostly sunny skies and winds out of the south. We took off from the dock in a northern heading looking for windswept shorelines with a gradual to steep break. It didn’t take long and we were pulling lead with Scatter Rap Minnows and #10 Husky Jerks in and out of 20 fow..
Dialing in a speed was the key to putting several walleyes in our boat. We started out at 1.2 to 1.5 with minimal success..We could see fish all over the bottom on the graph so I sped up to 2.0 to 2.4, let a bit more lead out and BANG !!! FISH ON !!!
With the weather closing in on us we had to cut our day short but after just about 3 hours of fishing we had 7 walleyes, 2 Smallies and one angry pike !!!
We’re here at Sunset Lodge all week so Debbie and i will try and keep you up to date on our vacation..
