Ice Fishing Door County Whitefish

Here is a recent report for the ice fishing in the Door County area on the Bay of Green Bay. At this point I dont feel I have to give a ice report due to there being close to 28 inches of ice and growing. Travel on the ice continues to be difficult in most areas for vehicle traffic and in some areas wheeled vehicles are having trouble in drifting areas.

We have been continuing to be very busy fishing for Whitefish on a daily basis which has been very good with limit catches happening for most on a daily basis. Our best success has continued to be using Rapala jigging raps in the color of black and gold along with using #2 and #3 jigging Rapala Shad Raps.

A big key to our success lately has been how the jigging technique is being done. The fish have definitely been responding much better to the baits being pounded on the bottom with out them being lifted to far off the bottom. We have been fishing these Rapala’s with no bait on them and catching lots of larger fish that have only been feeding on the bottom.

Over this past week we have changed some locations but we have still been finding our best success in water depths ranging from 50 to 70 feet of water. The Whitefish fishing will continue to go very strong through out the entire ice fishing season so there is still plenty of time to take advantage of this great fishing this season. Have fun great fishing and as always be safe.
