Well fall is here and the crappies are getting into their wintering areas on the lake all ready. Water temps are 63 degrees yet next week is going to cool the temps with some cooler days coming all week.
We are using the HDS 7,s structure scan to locate the schools of crappies in depths from 10 to 13 feet of water. Then we are just marking on the lowrance, the groups of crappies and large schools of bait fish to drift over them. Its just amazing how fish are on the locator at one time. They are some times suspended from 2 to 8 feet off the bottom at times , so like ice fishing raising your baits up to the fish is key to getting bit at times.
The baits of choice are 1/64th to 1/16th once jigs, which is depending on how strong the wind is for the day to keep your presentation to vertical as possible while drifting. We are using different colored plastic tails on the jigs as well which are tipped with minnows. Another presentation we are using are my favorite split shot rigs. The hooks that we are using are colored hooks and beads on the line as well , with blue beads being the hot color for this week.
We also have been doing pretty good on the walleyes and northerns on the set ups also. I added some pics. of the game fish also and what a blast Marcia had getting the 27 inch walleye on a perch rod. Over all its been a great week fishing with different folks and getting the crappies and hooking up with walleyes and northerns on the light poles.
