Summer seems to be passing by in a hurry this year! I have the hunting bug fairly bad and I always have to remind myself how lucky I am to be surrounded by some of the best fishing opportunities in the world! So I’ve been splitting my time between flinging arrows and stretching the string on a lot of Smallies. I know James is chomping at the bit to get his new Skeeter 2190 drenched in Superior Laker Slime, so get ready for some cool Lake Trout content!
Joel Nelson goes multi-species for July, with two articles, Fishing Trophy Pike in Clear Water and Going Vertical for Tough Bite Eyes. I was along for the Pike beatdown up in Northern Minnesota, and if you haven’t targeted Pike in clear water, it’s highly addicting!
Steve Root aka Rootski has an extremely comprehensive guide to fishing Two-handed fly rods such as the Spey and Switch Rods, in the article Two-Handed Attack! If you’ve wanted to learn or are interested in taking up this highly efficient method of fly fishing, you’ll want to read this article. Everything from casting tips, technique, to midwest fishing applications and even a glossary of terms! Talk about In-Depth!
This month we start we start the transition into hunting, am I jumping the gun a bit….maybe. However, trail camera pictures are starting to pop up, and food plotting is in full gear!
As many of you know, I drew an Elk tag down in New Mexico, and it hasn’t left my mind! This month I have part II in the saga. New Mexico Elk Saga Part II – The Gear covers all of the gear I plan to have with as I target these infatuating beasts! You’ll hear me say it 100 times in the article but advice is wanted!
A part of my gear is optics, a piece of my gear I recently had an epiphany! In A Case for High End Optics, I outline my movement to high end optics, and why I have found them to be so important!
So soak up the rest of summer and get out on the water before it’s frozen! And if you’re like me, keep fall hunting in the back of your mind!
