Well since nobody from IDO want to join us today, we thought we would get some guys together see see what would happen. The morning started cool with temps around 31. NW wind blowing 15-20 and snow flurries. We were hunting a bean field just south of a corn field that has been used by over 1000 geese for the last few days.
The first single swung right in and we took it at about 10 yards. After getting rid of the goose egg, we shot another single. Then the flocks stated coming and we worked a lot of birds.
Flock after flock came mostly from the north and we had several good chances. We worked and could have shot several different pairs and singles while trying to get the bigger flocks to commit.
One flock did it right and squared us perfectly. Lets just say the shooting was not the best. I think me along with some others had not shot in our shells. It took us until 10:00 ti fill our limit. We did get checked by the DNR and the officer said he had seem several new high flocks coming into town from the north. Est bird count right now is around 18-20,000 birds in town. With temps cooling down and cool NW winds, there should be more and more bird migrating in.
Until next time, good hunting and shoot often.
Nice report and photos Tim!
Goose hunting or taking the FW out on our anniversary….:o
…although I was still waiting for the cable guy when you guys had your limits.
Are you having a second hunt? By the sounds of it many of the Ido guns are out shaking up the woods in search of the Great White Tail.
you do realize the reason the birds were there were because IDO members were not there corrct?

We are having another hunt on December 6th. Hopefully snow by then.
With the cold temps happening this week, there should be more new birds coming in daily.

Jeff
Saturday certainly was a good shoot, but smoking 9 birds birds out of the first flock of 11 on Sunday was pretty sweet too.
Forgot to mention that I am enjoying pulled BBQ goose sandwiches for lunch. Courtesy of the 11/15 shoot.
Are you going to make the December hunt?

I would imagine I’d be out there. Sounds like Lar’s is coming down too. My lunch was outstanding by the way. That is such a good recipe for geese.
For those of you that were not there, here is what we did. Starting this weekend on HuntFishTV you can see it. See the web site for availablilties and times.

Could you please share your Pulled goose reciepe with us.
No problem. It is actually Walleye Brat’s recipe. Had it for the first time last season and I make it all the time now.
2 tablespoons butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small yellow onion, sliced
2 goose breasts
1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cups chicken broth
DIRECTIONS
Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and onion and saute for 5 minutes. Add goose breast and brown on both sides for about 5 minutes, or until browned.
Place goose breast in slow cooker and add Worcestershire sauce. Add chicken broth to cover (approximately 2 cups) and cook on High setting for 6 to 8 hours, or until meat breaks apart easily. Shred with a fork and mix with your favorite barbecue sauce.
So geese can be edible, huh. I swear I was growing and oiler that one summer after shooting 60+ snow geese in SD. Thank god the salvation army took a bunch off my hands.
thanks for the recipe. we should really have a forum for them…….James?????
