When most were out chasing deer, the guys and I were pounding on the geese here in Rochester. The first picture is the bean field we were hunting right off the refuge. Hunting out of clean, dry comfortable plywood pits is always a treat when the weather is windy and cold!
Here’s another picture of the morning set up. 14 dozen Big Foot decoys and 4 dozen Reel Geese silhouette decoys. A light snowy morning. Cool temps and a brisk NW wind at around 15-20 mph.
The morning started with a good size flock coming right in on the deck and whacking them. After the first flock, there were a lot of birds coming from both town, and the reservoir to the south of us. When the birds started coming in the morning, they did not stop for most of the day.
All in all today ended very early, 8:20, with a limit for 10 guys. 20 birds! We worked a lot of birds during our fast and furious morning. Pairs, singles and several flock gave us the challenge of working them right into the pocket. As you can tell by the pictures, things went according to plan!
Until next time, good hunting!
Great Opener Deer report Tim Thanks for sharing.
Love the lil fog on the field pics! I will stick to my tree stand on opener though!
Congrats Tim on your successful goose hunt!
