Time for one last report! I was able to take my cousin out for a day in the woods. Tyler wasn’t seeing much in the area that he was hunting. So we decided to see if we could hook up and take a buck on film. We got out on stand at about 2:00 PM on sunday afternoon. The weather was horrible. It was about 65 degrees, and no wind. It was really warm. I thought it would be a below average day for action. However, I was wrong…
I have two stands set up in a funnel that are touching each-other. Allowing for me to video tape the hunt. We both climbed up the tree, and got settled in. We watched the squirrels for a little while, and I decided it was time to try rattling the horns together. Nothing moved.
We both were beginning to think that it was too warm for any bucks to be moving. Another 15-20 minutes went by, and I decided to do some grunts and a roar on my primos "buck roar" call. I left out a few soft grunts, then turned them into more aggressive grunts followed by to roars. About two minutes later we spot movement, about 200 yards away. I pulled up the binoculars and said "buck". As I glassed him, I told tyler it was a eight point, and probably not a shooter.
The buck continued on his route to our stand. Tyler at this point in time had decided to pass on this buck. It was only an hour into our sit, with more than three hours of hunting left. And this was only the first buck that came into the calling. I reminded him that we still have a good week of hunting left. Well, from however far away that buck heard the roar, he came in dead on to the exact location of the call, and walked right under our tree stands. After buck fever set in, tyler decided that this buck suited him and decided to take the buck as he crossed under us and set up a great quartering away shot at 15 yards. The rest is history. He ran about 100 yards as Tyler’s arrow got both lungs. It was a short tracking job to say the least!
Congrats Tyler on a great day, and a great harvest! I am thankful we were able to capture the hunt on video! Thanks for spending the day with me, and making a lifelong memory!
Here is the video of the hunt! It takes a while to load.
If you still have your bow tag- good luck out there. There is still some great hunting time left!
Stay safe, and see you in the woods!
Great job Tyler and Luke. That’s an awesome buck in my book.
Way to go guys very cool
Awesome having it on video. I would love that.
Nice Buck Tyler! And great job Luke getting this kill on camera. That is not an easy task.
