2010 review; 2011 preview

Well, after starting off last year as an IDO reporter, I made a whole whopping one report. Between fishing tournaments, prefishing for tournaments, and working 50-60 hour weeks, I was just simply too burnt out to sit down, write up a report, and upload pictures. This summer however I hope to add a few more.

2010 was a year of ups and downs. I started the year off with my new personal best 7lb 3oz largemouth. Then in april I had some boat troubles, replacing a trolling motor and a starter, and had a few bad tournaments as a result of the lost fishing time. I had a good run in the summer however winning a few, and getting a top five and a top 10 in some of the bigger tourny trails. I learned a lot, fished with some great people, and had a lot of fun. I ended the year early, with another blown Evinrude lower unit late in the summer. Many of you know that I am also a diehard waterfowler. By the time the boat was fixed it was time for storage and the shooting season had begun.

This last year was a wierd year on the river. The river is always changing, but this year was different. WEEDS! Weeds grew everywhere. Wingdams had their own weedbed on top of them, sand flats were turned into new weed beds, and even clean rocky shorelines found a way to grow some weeds. A guy defnitally had to find a few new ways to fish and stay versitile.

2011, I would like to expand my horizon. I find myself doing the same thing year after year, and I do so because it does work for me. But eventually with things always changing, I will have to change with the river. 1-15 ft is my comfort zone. I would like to force myself to fish deeper, and find some offshore structure. I plan on fishing a pile of tournaments again this year. Ide like to do all of the Great Lakes BFLS, and a bunch of club and local tourny trails. However the price of gas this summer will determine how many I actually end up doing. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

  1. That Memorial Day smallie picture has me yearning for those days ahead on the river. Good luck this year!

PS: I also have a switch, and when grouse and pheasant starts it’s all hunting.

That pair from Pepin do it for me. Thanks for the report, Chris. I hope to read more from you in 2011.

Man I hear ya there! Why do I do it, cuz it works for me. Hard to change what is compfortable and works. I will try to force myself out of all my old habits, or should I say limitations!

    Nice report Kris
