Winni Perch

OOPS!

It only took a week of warm weather to make the roads a mess out on Winni. They are rutted up and sloppy. Don’t plan on going out with two wheel drive. I have pulled several people out over the past few days and I had to be yanked out as well. Travel away from the roads isn’t bad, but you have to watch out for deeper snow and slush. Travel could be down to atv, or snowmobile shortly, but the fishing is well worth the trip.

You have to move around to stay on active fish. Some holes you will get couple fish, some you will get ten to fifteen as fast as you can get your line down. You never know when that next hole will be the end of the rainbow you’re looking for.

I’ve heard of people getting fish as shallow as 5’, but I have been concentrating around the 28-30’ mark. Fish can be found as deep as 36’ or 37’, but I like to work shallower if I can. I will continue to try shallow water on each outing looking for more fish to move up. I haven’t found the numbers of big perch shallow yet. Like I have said before, move if you’re not getting fish.

If you are traveling around out on the lake, watch out for the old roads and the snow banks. It was real hard to see out there in the snow on Thursday. I was looking down at my gps when I managed to find the parking spot in the first picture. If you use caution, you will still be able to get wherever you want with a four wheel drive truck right now, but it will be down to ATV travel will be in the next week or two.
