Bow’ing Action!

Went out for the annual social event of the opening of the stocked trout opener…lol. What a trip! I had to leave by 8 am each morning to go to work and with the 6:50 opener, I had a short window to fish but hey, its kinda like walleye opener…You still have to do it!

Whats really neat about this is you get in line early to head out there. Everyone is friends with everyone! Its alot of fun its about the experience just as much as the fishing!

So I arrived at 430 am to get inline. Got let in early and got set up with primo parking. I went and set up in about 13 feet of water. Got to meet the local warden as well. When the time came, I turned the LX-5 on and dropped down a glow jig tipped with a nuclear red jumbo plastic and instantly got bit! I really didn’t set the hook the fish sorta buried its self. Went toe to toe with my first bow of the year, after a nice tussel. I had the biggest bow through the ice in MN of mine. In the celerbation. It flopped out of my hand and back down the hole…

Reloaded and went back down and popped a nice bow. Sat around for a little while longer, catching 7 or 8 more. Changed to a rattling glow spoon and popped 3 nice bows to go home to make 4. As the buzzer sounded to pack up and go to work. I shut the heater off, put the lx 5 away and notice my quiverstick trying to add itself to structure on the bottom. Grabbed it, fought the fish. Iced it and kept right on walking in! Had a limit of bows in just over an hour plus a few others plus a few lost fish.

Was an awesome trout opener as always. Getting the chance to tussel with these fish is an absolute riot! Was heartbreaking to lose that big bow but oh well!

The quiverstick handled the fish nice, but a perch sweetheart would really be the ticket I think! We will find out tomorrow!
