Gills on Lake Puckaway , Wi.

Got a late start fishing but the barometric pressure was falling and that ussually makes a good day for the gills to be doing well. I drilled a series of holes in a line for different depths and was using the underwater camera to look for fish. The 1st 2 holes were cloudy but the rest of them were gin clear water and had fish on the camera all the way around the hole! Great sign for the day. The depths we were fishing was varying about 3 feet of water and some nice weeds still growing off the bottom. Set up the tent do to some sight fishing which is my favorite way to fish panfish.

The baits for the day were mamooska and diamond jigs tipped with red plastics and red spikes and waxworms. The fish would charge into the baits as soon as it got down there. The more aggresive you jigged it the more fish that would show up. Some times you could see as many as 12 bluegills at once down the hole. So pulling the baits away from the small ones and getting in front of the bigger ones was a must. The bite was fast all day with a good share of sorting to get a meal for the day. Some of the gills just touched 10 inches for the day.

From Jeff, and happy new year to everyone!

  1. Thanks guys for the comments and the fish are relating to the weeds off the sides of the river. Will be chasing the eyes this week also and will put a report on.

Here is a few pictures of the wife from today! Good to have out fishing again just like the old days.
