Petenwell Flowage Cats And Walleyes

Well we finally made a trip to Petenwell on Saturday 12/18/10
After a few challenges of an unplowed parking area and big drifts to walk thru. We were finally on the ice. We found the ice to be very slick in spots as if it was windy when it froze and there were ripples on top. Then where the ice wasn’t slick it was snow covered and had some slush on top. We did see a 4-wheeler out there but he had a heck of a time just getting to the ice but once on travel was Ok

The spot we picked was within reasonable walking distance from the truck. After a quick look at the GPS (thank you Lakemaster) We looked to be in the money spot The Strikemaster was fired up and a series of holes was punched in 20-23 FOW. Shane (Targaman) was the 1st on the board with healthy Catfish .

We continued to mark fish but had issues getting them to commit. But every once in awhile 1 would. The water on Petenwell is quite stained so rattling baits are almost a must. Finally I got one to bite and pulled up a very nice looking walleye and at the same time Shane got his twin on a tip up. Just to trick us into thinking it was game on now.

As the day went by we finally got to hear Jesse (Blue Perch)sound off that he was in battle and then landed our 2nd Catfish of the day. While it wasn’t a big numbers day and the bite was tough. It was still a good time with great friends.
We will be hitting it again this Sunday in hopes of nailing down a great catfish bite as they area blast to catch a on jig pole.

  1. I’ve heard from more than a few people that it was a bit of a tough bite so far out there on the Pete.
Nice job getting a few of them to commit.

By the way, how do the cats taste from Petenwell? Do any of you guys eat them or just have fun catching & releasing?

Good job getting the one arm bandit (Shane) out and about

The shoulder is progressing ahead of schedule! Joel, I have indeed kept and ate cats out of Pete and they taste great. But then again I eat whole whitebass fillets in the heat of summer. Thanks for getting me out Pat!
