The report isn’t the report I wanted to give, but like I always say, “it is what it is”. I just got of the phone with Al with Morris Point and he said that they will not be letting anyone on the lake from their location till at least after the weekend, and if you can’t go out of Morris Point you’re not fishing on the big body of water. He said that he will go out there today and check conditions again, but he stated that there is heavy snow on the ice and he’s going to take great caution. He also said that after the weekend if it’s safe maybe next Tuesday or Wednesday that he will start dragging a trail and he thinks that sleds and 4-Wheelers will be able to get out there and start fishing. But, there also might be a possibility because of the heavy snow that fishermen might only be able to walk out there…I will find out the skinny and let you know when it happens.
We do have Northern fisherman fishing Tip-Ups and spearing in Four Mile Bay and I guess they are driving sleds out there, drilling holes, or walking to a spear house and fishing away. By the way, just as the fisherman were slamming the Walleyes a few days prior to the heavy snowfall the Northern fisherman are slamming the “Big Slimmers” in the bay. I still recommend extreme caution after the recent snow fall. The ice wasn’t that thick and with the heavy snow it has weighted it down and made it unsafe. What we need now is for much colder temperatures to freeze the ice through the snow that’s acting as insulation and not freezing the ice as quickly, possibly leaving many wet slushy areas on the ice. If you do take a sled out onto Four Mile Bay and start Tip-Up fishing, be sure to have some big bait, the big Northern Pike love them big, and once again be very safe.
I will keep you all informed as to what’s happening on “The Worlds Best Hard Water Fishery”, Lake of the Woods. It will happen soon enough, so keep checking out the report for the latest news. You can purchase your lures and bait from the same place that I get mine, Log Cabin Bait and Tackle, which is about ¾ of a mile south of the Wigwam on 172. Also, Tom’s Tackle, a local tackle making company makes all the lures that I use and you can get your own Tom’s Tackle jigs and lures at Log Cabin Bait. Use what works for us on Lake of the Woods, “Tom’s Tackle”, a local company that know what works on Lake of the Woods. Keep checking out the fishing report, and I’ll give you all the hard facts as soon as I find out where they’re hiding next. Good luck and Happy Fishing to all! Thanks for fishing with us and visiting with us at the Wigwam Resort on Lake of the Woods.
Happy Fishing to all, and to all a good day!

I just got off the phone with Brian from Adrians and I guess he marked a trail, by snowmobile from Adrians Road to Pine Island and he said that there is 6-1/2 inches of good ice out on the lake, but that’s after you cross some crappy snow and ice. He said that this morning when he went across that there were 8 portables out there fishing away. I still recommend caution, but there out there fishing boys and girls.
Be Safe and Happy Fishing,
Wigwam Fisherman
Good news. 14 of us will be there next Fri. I know one thing for sure and that the will be cold and it will be a good time at the Wig Wam. Do you guys have any entertainment lined up?
“Big Dipper Karaoke” and everyone will be having fun. We have a few different things planned in the bar this winter, which I hope everyone will enjoy. Take care and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
