Spent a beautiful day below the dam with Big B. South wind got a bit stong in the afternoon for a while, but the full sun and warm temps. more than made up for it. Not to many walleyes. A few short ones and the odd better one. Here is one of the odd ones[The fish or the fisherman, you decide.].
What the walleyes lacked in numbers, the sauger made up for. Lots of small ones and some good eater size. We didn’t catch any big ones but did manage to get a limit of 14 to 17 inch fish for the dinner table. Here is Big B with a couple of eaters.
Here is a picture of yours truly with a walleye for my father-in-law. Ya Ya I know and you know. Don’t tell him!
In the morning most of our fish came on jigging spoons[one eyed shiners]. After the sun got out bright the fish didn’t want them anymore and we switched to jig heads and plastic bodys. Most the time we tipped the jigs with minnows. Chartreuse seemed to be the best color with purple running a close 2nd. Caught more fish in deeper water, but they ran smaller. The bulk of our better fish came from depths of 25 to 35 feet. With the fish biting, the eagles flying around and some good banter between boats it was a day to remember.
Hey Dude, what is wrong with that one sauger? It looks like it is turning green, is is spoiled?
Only thing green around there was me with envy. I didn’t catch any walleye over the 15 inch limit.
