Mississippi River Pool 10 Ice fishing 2/19 and 2/23/04

Although this fish report is way late it might just be one of my last ice reports. With the temps in the 40’s ansd 50’s during the day the ice is getting very hunnycombed. That and the need to get my boat ready for the open water season has got me torn between tow vwery fun sports.

Well on the 19 of Feburary I had met up with The Fishing Machineon the ice. She had been getting some dandy crappies like this one while the snow was still pretty thick on top of the ice.All of the crappie caught on this day were right below the ice…Fishing in 2 feet of water if you were to put your offering more than a foot below the ice you weren’t going to catch near as many fish

Being on the move is another very important part of staying on the fish. As seen here by the Fishing Machine it’s on the move with ease that keeps the fish coming through the hole in the ice..

Well a couple of days later i made my way up to cold springs north of Lynxville. I had herd of some dandy 10" gills being caught thru the ice but the ice was deteriorating fast. The visability here is very clear. I was fishing in two and a half feet of water and doing some sight fishing..I saw a ton of fish, bass in the 3 to 5 pound range, gills is excess of 9 inches, along with shad and some huge dog fish…

I ended up with several gills ranging from 5 inches to a wopping 9 and 1/4 inches. The ice was going out fast so if your gonna get into some of this fishing you’d better act fast !!
