I was helping out a new freind guide some folks on the river for walleyes and saugers on the 5th and a great afternoon it turned out to be. We started out verticle jigging in about 13 feet of water and we had a sharp drop off to deeper water close to us. We were using my home made stand up jigs tipped with fat heads for bait. I have a fish counter in the boat and at the end of 4 hours of fishing it read 52 walleyes and saugers we caught for the afternoon. We ended up with 3 saugers the biggest 18 inches, some crappies and also some whitebass to have for a meal. It was a great day teaching the folks on how to fish for the day.
Guiding Pete on the 6th turned out to be another good day on the river as well . We started out in the same spot with faster action then the day before. We were using 1/4 once jigs with minnows and stinger hooks. The hot colors for the 2 days were purple and yellow. We also used zip lures in the perch patterns. We pulled in a nice 17 inch smallie right away and several walleyes and saugers to boot. Verticle jigging was the key for the day. A few times as we were netting fish if you left your line in and was on bottom you have another fish on when you picked up your rod. Some of the walleyes we released were 17 to all most 18 inches long.
On the 6th we ended up with 68 walleyes and saugers on the fish counter with 6 legal saugers. We also had some white bass as well for the day . Most of the fish prefered the purple stand-up jigs for the day.

Some colder weather on the way so fishing should heat up. Lets hit the Dells after you get your deer.

We are heading out for deer hunting in the morning. See you when we get back.
