Sorry I haven’t posted a report on here for a while, been posting daily reports in the hayward lakes section.
But I did want to put a post up about the great musky fishing going on now! The chippewa Flowage has had a great musky bite going on now. Ealier when we had the warm up all the fish were eating suckers, and you had to get the suckers swimming in the area where your lures were normally landing, really getting into the cover, and letting the suckers do there job.
For sucker rigs I am using the new Shumway E-Z Duzzit Clip-n-go sucker rig, the easiest sucker rig out there to use, just make sure you set the hook on the fish right when it hits, and is moving away from you, and it will be stuck in the corner of the mouth every time.
Now that the water is starting to cool down again, like normal, the fish are splitting up between shallow dawgs, squirko’s, and slammer minnow baits. and suckers. the best spots are green weeds, or sand bars close to the main river channels, the fish are using the river channels like a highway and move up on the shallows to eat. Water temps on the chip are now about 55 and dropping a bit everyday.
When working the main lake weeds, its best to run one sucker on the side of the boat you are casting on about half way down in the water column, and another rod on the other side of the boat with a sucker very close to the bottom, while you are casting, and really focus on the weed edges with the cooler water. Also we have been getting some nice pike too, which I don’t mind when they are the same size as the muskies we are catching.
Ya know…I’m going to have to give the ski’s another try one of these days.
It just looks like too much fun Tanner!
That first fish is chunky. Nice report Tanner, great to see they’re still eating well up there!
