Perch fishing was very mixed this week. Some days it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Other days everybody catches perch. Access has improved somewhat with but access to the better spots still is tricky. The weight of the snow is forcing water up through cracks in the snow and holes. Some roads have long section that are standing water. Caution when driving in these areas because they freeze over and you can drop the front or back end of your vehicle through getting hung up.
Back to the fishing…Some days the action will be specific to individual holes. Holes ten feet away will yield little to no perch, the next day all of the holes have fish. Go figure, but this is not atypical of how things can go. The huge schools are still there but some days they will just lay on the bottom. I have drilled dozens of holes over these large schools stretching out a mile or so and I can get maybe one or two to rise every 6th hole. I have been shown holes that have fish but drill another a vehicle lenght away and get no rises. I go to the hot hole and there they are.
Techniques are the same as they have been all year.
