Today I had a little time to make a perch run. The weather was warm with sunshine and a light breeze. This is the time of year that I like, the sun sets a little later each day and our jumbo perch start to get active!
I went back to the spot that our group had fished during the Liberty Extravaganza. The difference today was that some jumbos were biting! I started out in a couple of holes that were still open from a rental house that the resort had just pulled. I was thinking that I could do a little hole jumping. Well…..the first holes I setup in started producing right away!
I started out with a green wessel tipped with a minnow head. I soon switched to a green-gold 1/4oz. Ivan crusher that I caught all my perch on. I caught around 6-7 fish in about 1 hour with the two above my biggest of the trip. These fish showed up on the Vexilar and never left. I would bounce the bottom and just lift the lure around 6-8 inches off the bottom.
This next picture shows the perch near the bottom. The location that I was fishing was just south of Lakeside 2mile reef in around 29 feet of water. The perch action should only get better from now until ice out! Some of the resorts will keep the lake accesses open for the perch fisherman. The warm sun shine will cut down some of the snow depths that we currently have. You do need to either drive your truck on the roads or travel by snowmoblie as the snow is to deep for ATV travel at this time.
Super Jumbo’s, they look at least 12 inches. should just keep getting better. Jack.
Are you seeing anymore of those nice tullees that were caught saturday?
Nice report Bob.
Did you have fresh fish last night?
I did’nt get any Tullies! And I think it’s fish tonite

Thanks for the report Bobber. Those look like some great jumbos. I gotta get up there soon.

Nice perch Bob. It sure is fun to catch some jumbos while soaking up the sun.
Just a quick update:
I went back to my spot the last two afternoons and had very little success. I only managed a couple keeper perch each day…..The wind is blowing at around 15mph today, might have to pull the Otter along for some shelter!
The perch fisherman are fishing 3 areas around the Hunters Point. The Flamigo reef, southend of Lakeside 2mile reef near the area where Hunters had their rentals located and the far southend of Hunters 2mile. Hunters has maintained roads to all these locations and access to them is good. Hunters also has a road plowed to the Boot Flat.
The snow has been dropping with this warm weather and soon we will be able to get around on ATV’s to all areas of the lake. The rain in the forecast will do some damage to our remaining snow cover! And also might damage the great snowmobling many have been enjoying in this area.
