Muskie fishing has been getting better on the Big Chip and other area lakes. There was a PMTT tourny on the lake this past weekend, 28 fish were caught by 76 teams, first place got 5 fish on Sunday alone! My partner Tom Olsen and I came in 3rd, most of the fish were caught on bucktails, ours were caught on Black and Green Cowgirls casted over really thick weeds, our fish in the tournament were 34 and 45 1/4 inches.
Water Temps on the Chip have now dropped to about 70 degrees this week, and the fishing is getting better. tuesday I only guided in the evening, I had a low 30 inch fish take a swipe and miss at my River 2 Sea Kong swimbait, on the same spot my client had a musky follow his cowgirl it. that spot was a main lake weed bar that had the wind blowing in on it. then nothing until dark when I told my clients last cast, and he set the hook, we netting the fish immediatly, and it was his biggest musky at 47 inches caught on a cowgirl, just after dark. The fish came off of a main lake weed point too.
the next couple of days fishing was good, getting a shot at a fish or two a day. yesterday morning while fishing a main lake weed bar, I had about a 40 incher blow up on my River 2 Sea Kong swimbait, and put up a great fight. My client also had an upper 30 inch fish follow his cowgirl to the boat, but then turned off, that was just before a big storm blew in and it was pretty bad weather for most of the day.
Most of our fish lately have been coming off of main lake weeds, we are concentrating on fishing the weed edges mostly. don’t get too hung up on fishing wind blown structure either, a lot of the fish are coming off the back sides of structure. Good Luck!!

The fishing must be good, even this blind squirrel managed to catch one while on vacation last week on the Chip before engine problems regulated me to spots my kicker could get me too….
