I thought the west winds from Sat would have cooled the water but found 57 near the bottom in 50 fow near the green can so moved out to 65’ before setting lines around 415. Had about 6 lines out and rigger White glow opti and white crinkle Trophy fly down 40 fired and grabbed the 30’ rigger and 6 color we were setting. Quite a mess in the dark but netted the fish, board, flasher/fly and spoon. Scrambling to get the ball of stuff cleared and stashed it for later. 5 color Red Hook reg double purple spook took a nice king then 7 color reg Broken Nose. Next was 3 color with #4 J Grey Ghost.
Things quieted a bit by 0545 and wishing we had gotten setup more efficiently. 5 color reg Chicken Pox produce another dandy king. Riggers remained quiet and started to change from glows to other stuff but overcast skies so kept darks. Added another double purple spook to the SWR down 60 in 80fow took a nice coho. Mag Green Tiger wire dipsy 65loc got to 290loc on the first run. Around a 14# king that thought related to a bow after the 3rd jump. He must have had a heart attack after that as came in like it was wrapped but hooked in the mouth and quietly slipped into the net.
There was lots of debris in 70-80fow so dodging lots of junk and hooked up a plastic bag that was a bear to land. When resetting the drag buzzed a bit and guessed just another stick but found a small king drowned on dbl purple spook. Missed another bottom scraping SWR dbl purple spook. 7 color with reg Broken nose another king then a coho and White glow opti and white crinkle Trophy fly down 70 took a small laker.
Then a 4 hour 5 drive by unnerving quiet spell. My very patient crew made the most of it untangling the 6 color mess which was much appreciated because it was the first time in the water since the 6 color lost last trip. We worked a 2 mile quadrant 70-95 fow and marked plenty of fish but they were in a funk. Temp 48 down 70 and 2 mi south 45 at same depth trolling 1.8-2 on the Depth Raider with a small current from the north. Started pulling lines at noon and 5 color reg orange muffin another drive by. Got down to 3 rods left and the deep SWR dble purple spook grabbed by our 5th four yr old. Had only one board left in the water and it manage to grab it so second time of the day netting fish and board and sure glad it hung on. 1 LT, 3 coho and 9 kings. Nice to have a day with flat seas and no rain nor looming Tstorms. A great father’s day present for all of us.
Tight lines and full coolers,
Grey Beard
Thanks for the report Michael.
Nice report greybeard and it sounds like you guys had an action packed day on the water! How has the night bite been as of late?
We fished out of Kenosha on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. The afternoon bite was slow but steady picking up a mix of kings, cohos and steelhead in about 55 ft. Tuesday we got out before the sun was up and the kings were on fire for about an hour. Then it went back to a slower steady bite with a few cohos mixed in. Tuesday we worked from 80 ft. out to about 110 ft. On Monday we picked them up on a little bit of everything. On Tuesday the spoons never got touched and the flies ruled the day.
