After three weeks of being busy with weddings and what not away from the river, I was able to make up for lost time by spending 4 days down at the cabin!
Upon arrival I could tell by looking at the water, that fishing in some locations would be tough. The water clarity in certain back water areas didn’t have the clarity that I was hoping for. So I began my search and focus on the main channel.
This 3 lb. smallmouth got the weekend started off right by hitting a topwater plug. Covering a lot of water and looking for areas that had just the right amount of current on them was key.
When the topwater action would slow, I turned to Flukes and a wacky rigged Senko to do the dirty work. The main channel bite proved to be the most benefical, but certain backwater stretched had a bass here or there.
A wide variety of baits worked in the backwaters including swim jigs and frogs.
To cap off the weekend my friend Aaron made a trip over to the river on one of his last casts of the morning hooked up with this hefty smallie that hit a tube.
It seems like these bass are in transition and the bite will continue to improve over the next week.
I hope everyone had a great, long weekend and got to spend sometime on the water!
Congrats on your successful outing Glen!
Congrats! I went to college with Aaron, I did a double take when I saw that picture!
