On the water at 515 and setup 3 miles south of the harbor in 130fow and started trolling SE. 100’SWR reg Red Hook Pink Tiger fired at 145fow and doubled up with a nice bow on mono board and red flasher with blk/purple and that would go again for anther bow later. Missed the next 3 bites, 3set 35loc Orange Bechhold Blue longtail (eventually 1 for 5!), 45’SWR reg Green Tiger and 90’ White Opti dodger/glow/LBB. It was slower than last Sat and few marks and no bait to be seen. Friends doing well about 3mi north so zigged and zagged 150-185 picking off one here, one there along the way with not particular depth the best.
We kept changing board lures with nadda on 5 color and Orange Tiger and changed to reg dbl Orange crush with a drive by. 8 color, nadda with dbl purple spook, yellow Tiger so for a 7 color with Opti Mt Dew orange and dble aqua nadda. Changed the 10 color from mag Bloody death to reg Dble Purple spook and finally bit with a mag Green Tiger.
Stud setups for the day grn Opti with glow/silver and double aqua rigger down 90’ 6 for 10, 45’ SWR reg green Tiger 5 for 8 and 4 color orange Bechhold blue longtail 3 for 3. Wire Dipsys were dead and worked them on a 1.5 set from 75 to 150loc with various flasher flys. Stuck on a reg Blue Alewife 95loc 1 for 1. The other 3 set Dipsy also dead so put a reg Green Tiger 150loc 1 for 1. 2 color red dodger purple fly 1 for 1, 3 color aqua coho candy 1 for 1.
Temp at the harbor 54 and 44.6 in 180 and 40.6 down 90 trolling at 1.8-2 on the Depth Raider. Fish were scattered and missed a bunch of bites and drive bys. Quite surprised how deep the coho are coming. I’m still looking of the first king of the year. It was a great day on flat seas with 4 bows, 1 LT and 14 coho and over 30 bites.
Tight lines and full coolers,
Grey Beard
That looks like fun Michael I am going to have to give it a try one of these days, thanks for the report!
gotta love fishing Lake Michigan. Thanks for the update.
30 plus bites & 19 fish in the box, doesn’t sound to bad Michael. Enough action to keep the guys on there toes.
Looking forward to getting my first trip of the year on the big pond soon.
That sounds about the same that we did yesterday. We went 8 for 11 with a couple missed hits mixed in. Overall an awesome day on the water. It’s rare and extremely enjoyable when Michigan is that calm. Today doesn’t look to be that nice. Hopefully the fishing will still be that nice.
I’ll be headed out there in a few weeks also I’m sure, thanks for keeping us informed and helping the interest level stay peaked! Great report!
