Lake Zumbro Crappies

It sure felt good getting back on the water again after a long week at work. Joining me on this trip to Lake Zumbro were Jake, Lisa & Jen. We were searching for some slabs for dinner & weren’t disappointed on this outing. Fishing away from the main honey holes were the key to putting fish in the boat today, as a lot of boat pressure will spook fish in a hurry when they are only 5 feet down in the water column.

Armed with my box full of Custom Jigs & Spin Tackle we were off & going. Jen got the first fish of the day even before we all had our lines in the water. Way to go Jen! She seemed to had the HOT hand all day, as she out fished everyone (me included) all day. I tell them sometimes I just have to be the guide. LOL Well, Someone has to do it!

We found some smaller fish up shallow & most of the bigger fish out on the first main breaks. Dragging our Flu-Flu’s at about 0.3 to 0.5 mph were the best speeds today & we kept moving looking for the active fish, once located we just went back & forth over them & put fish in the boat most of the day.

All in all it was a Great day on the water. Got to give Jake a BIG Thank You for driving today as my truck was in the shop getting fixed. Also there is still some logs & brush floating out there so keep an eye out for that! The boat ramp is in good shape & remember to have your boat ready to go when you’re putting in & be willing to help others out if they’re having trouble. It just speeds up the landing for everybody!

  1. Good job Doug, glad to see a report from LZ finally,as soon as I can find an honest sitter WE WILL be hookin up.

Glad to see your getting out, how is the job going

  2. NICE!

Fished out there Saturday afternoon. Found 2 spots holding fish. Mainly 10-11″ers. Picked on them until they ran dry, but didn’t find much else.

Not bad for a quick middle of the afternoon trip on a weekend.

Is it just me, or does an East wind BLOW on Lake Zumbro

  3. Hey Bill, How it going for you? I keep looking for you on the lake when i’m out there.
bill, I can’t tell you how many memories I have with my girls. I got them into fishing when they couldn’t even hold a pole. They LOVE our place up north. Someday it will be givin to them by me & Ma. I know they will have a place to enjoy the great outdoors for many years to come. Then I can hear them telling there kids.(Grandpa & Grandma gave us this place) Kinda makes me feel good inside.

  4. Sounds like a fun day of fishing….You might need do tell Jen what I tell everyone in my boat….”NEVER out-fish the Capt!!! Or you might be walking!!”
    Great job…..
