Upper Pool 4 Walleye Update

Things really transpired quickly on Pool 4 this spring. We went through the whole spawn thing pretty fast it seemed and before you knew it, it was pretty much over.
Now just because the spawn is over, at least for the most part, doesn’t mean the fish quit biting.

As I pulled back into the resort after a Monday outing it looked like a ghost town. Tuesday I swung in just to say hello to Dean and he looked a little like the Maytag Repairman sitting there all by himself. Actually he was standing there, on the dock, reeling in fish.

Anyway, my point is the bite itself is not what it was a couple weeks ago but my trips in the last five days have all given up some pretty decent fish and some numbers as well. Many different presentations have coaxed a few into the boat but three-waying stick baits has been the best overall producer. Jason Papunfuss is shown with a 25″er from last Thursday. This fish was caught while rigging a crawler very slowly into the current. All of our other fish on Thursday were caught on pro blue paddle tails.

Friday Carl Lamar, Dave Lasche and I stickbaited our way to a dandy bunch of fish. Orange and Ft #7 rapalas took all the fish on this day.
Clair and Ken Snyder show off a couple from yesterday that were both caught on orange #5 raps pulled in very shallow water.
I also spent Saturday on the water with my son and one of his buddies and found the morning bite pretty slow but afternoon a switch over to handlining put us into a few good eaters to salvage the day.
Don’t let all this nice April weather go to waste. Get out and enjoy!
