Lake Zumbro Easter Crappies

On this Easter Sunday, I was blessed with a fishing trip with my wife Kelly & daughter, Lisa. We headed to Lake Zumbro in search of some crappies for our supper and we weren’t disappointed. It didn’t take long & we were on fish suspended high in the water Column & I knew they were crappies. (They always stage here this time of year)

Armed with my Custom Jigs & Spin Flu Flu’s in a wide color range, we were set! The best color today was white/blue, with pink/white coming in a close second. We fished over the first main drop offs, falling from 12ft to 20 ft being the best depths today.

Our method was dragging these jigs at .03 to .05 mph over the areas I mentioned before. This method is the same thing James & Jason do for walleye’s on the river, just on a smaller scale. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box a little to put fish in the boat.

The water is still stained a bit, but should be clearing up quickly if we don’t get any more rain in the near future. We even saw a guy water skiing today.(BURRR) All in all it was a great day on the water with my girls. We kept a couple fish for the fry pan & the rest went back to be caught another day.

  3. great post i was just wondering if anybody had been to the zumbro yet,did you happen to find any gills?

  4. Water level looks good Jeff. Didn’t fish for any gills, But marked a bunch, they were tight to the bottom & the crappies were up high. Chris, I had to give my own, & it seemed to pay off!

  5. thanks doug! i live in byron, and i was wondering where exactly you were fishing on the zumbro… i have tried many times and never had the luck you have it looks like

  6. Welcome to IDO! Well the Zumbro is some of my home waters & have been fishing it for years. The crappies stage this time of the year just off the first main drop offs. Use your vexilar or even your graph & you will find them high in the water column. You should be good to go from there. Any more ?’s shot me a PM & I’d be glad to help you out! Doug

  7. Hey Bill. Hope all is good with you. hope to see ya back on the water this spring. Some great fishin ahead!

Chris, in the next week or so things will really get going & I think the kids would have a blast! Spot # 4
