Billy Dougherty here fished Rainy River at Frontier Landing this morning, fishing was slow with just a couple per boat. Fished the Sioux in afternoon. From 2-4 o’clock fishing was picking up steadily fish coming through in flurries. Had to leave at 4. Looks to be a good week coming.
On the way home we met the Koochiching Sheriff rescue airboat. I got a call tonight saying it was headed to Lake of the Woods. Two snowmobiles went through ice with possible drownings. I have not had definite confirmation. It is 60 plus degrees here and ice is deteriorating fast. I would stay off lakes!

What is wrong with these people! We had a 58 year old aquaintance of mine drown last week here due to the same thing…tried to cross the river ice with his 4 wheeler and drowned in 4 feet of water.
The gamble is just not worth catching fish. I will never understand early or late season people with wheelers/snowmobiles and trucks on ice
