It was a cold weekend on Mille Lacs but we didn’t let that put a damper on the fishing. With temps finally getting above zero the fishing seemed to start picking up again. Tip-ups in shallow water were the ticket for the day. The fist picture is a dandy 27 incher caught only minutes after getting set-up.
With the fish hitting live bait pretty aggressive and the guide clients watching the tip-ups, Adam and I set out to do some jigging. We were jigging 1/8 ounce Glow Devils in shallow water trying to get some of the active fish to go. It didn’t take long to tie into a few JUMBO perch. Very nice JUMBO perch! Along with the JUMBO perch came a few slot fish, both of which had been pretty elusive this year.
With the day winding down our clients were able to snap a great picture of Mille Lacs in the evening. No fish in this picture but one of the MANY reasons to come spend a day on Mille Lacs.
The action wasn’t done for the day however. As our clients retreated to the confort of our sleeper house, they were greeted with more action. Several nice pike came through the hole as well as this 24 inch walleye at 3:30 AM. The walleye fishing is not overly fast but the bite is picking up and when you throw in the Pike and Jumbo Perch it can be an action packed day.
That picture reminds me of the old saying “Red sky at night, fisherman’s delight”!

That’s a dandy eye Scott . Keep those reports comin’.
We have been targeting 10-15 ft of water again. The Perch bite is REALLY picking up now. You should see the Jumbo’s Adam pulled yesterday. WOW, they were impressive
