Devils Lake Perch Report for 2/2/04

While the recent snows and severe cold temperates has made access more difficult, perch fishing still is going strong for those who venture out. More roads are being plowed and maintained around the lake. Travel off the plowed roads is very difficult to impossible. Do not go off the plowed roads alone.

There are huge schools of perch all over the lake. By huge I mean they are stretched out for miles. They are in all the usual places. The bite tends to be fickle at times and torrid in others. It seems to revolve around fronts and pressure systems. If you time it right and the weatherman cooperates you can limit in a few hours. Other days you’ll mark fish all day and only manage a half dozen or so. Some days minnows are it and other days it’s spikes. The best bite is during a longer duration stable weather period. You just have to fish.
