Pool 5a Bass Camp

Monday I was blessed with a beautiful day to get the boat out for the first time & chase some fish at the river. Joining me on this trip were my brother Tony & his son in-law Travis. We set our site on pool 5a( Bass Camp) on this day as it’s always been good to me through out the years.

It didn’t take long & I had a fish hit my jig with a smack that I’ve waited for all winter. What a great feeling only a few hundred yds into our drift. We were working the tips of wing dams & the sand flats in between them, working depths from 18 to 8 feet. Finding most of our fish on the rocky tips in 18 ft. I was fishing a char jig head with firecracker/char tail & stayed with that most of the day.

Other colors that worked were pro blue paddltails & firecracker ringworms. The water is getting stained & things should only get better as far as the bite goes, so don’t be afraid to try some different colors as things change daily on the river.

We put the boat in on the upper ramp & it’s in good shape. He just put a couple loads of good rock on it. The main ramp still had some ice blocking it & it should be good to go by the middle of the week. Also the bait shop is open & ready to go for the season. Had a great day on the water & hope to get up to pool 4 to see Dean soon! If I can get some cookies baked. Be safe on the water & remember to treat others as you would want to be treated!

  1. Man, does that look fun! What a great day to be on the water with some great company and fishing too? I’m jealous Thanks for the report and pool conditions

  2. Why does work have to get in the way of all of the important things?

I missed being there and what a great bunch of guys to be on the water with too! I’m up for P4 almost any time… P5a sounds awesome too.

  3. Wow that looks great. I haven’t been to 5a in several years. Your report sure tells me what I’ve been missing.

  4. Nice job Doug. You did much better than I did last Sunday. It looks like a good time was had by all. I fish 5a quite a bit, if you see a blue navigator 175 stop by and say hi.
