3/2/10 Wisconsin Dells report.

It started out with cold temps in the teens for the mourning when we put the boat in. The landing was iced up and the truck sled down the ramp till the boat hit the water. There was a good fog all the way to the Wisconsin river from my home lake of Lake Puckaway. But the skies were clearing up after we started fishing. We Put in at Riversedge bait shop on county A just out of the Dells. I was fishing with my son Jason and one of his best freinds Rick and a freind of all of ours Michael. It was nice getting together with Jason and Rick because once it warms up they go back to work and its hard to get them together for fishing.

We started out fishing with hair jigs in sizes of 3/8th and 1/4 once for the mourning. The barometer was high and steady. Skies cleared off and warmed up some but still through the day your rod tips still froze up . The colors we used were purple and white hair jigs and the hot color for the day seemed to be yellow with various colored heads. It was not a fast bite for the day but we picked up a few and missed a few as well. Over all it was a great day to be out with great people and enjoy the day . We saw a couple of bald eagles and even got a few carp on the hair jigs. Ended up with just one 16 incher walleye in the box and one 23 incher in the slot limit that was released and caught a few small ones . We will be back for the big run is not far away with the warm temps and rain coming later this week. The water will warm up and the bite will be on.

  1. It sounds like you had a fun day fishing with your son and with friends and that’s the most important thing!

  2. You had a better day than we had up there today. Nothing but short fish and even those were tough to come by. I did manage to pick up about a 15 pound pike on a split shot and minnow, so the day wasn’t a total bust. And a guy couldn’t beat the weather.

  4. Fished on the 16th, water was at 38-39. Next week should be the start of a good thing. Very slow when I was there. My 15 1/2″ eye was the first fish I seen caught all day, Then 5 minutes later I got a 14 1/2″ smallie. 1/2 hour after that I got a 13″ eye. That started at 5pm.( cable area ) Saw another guy driftin catch a small sturgeon, and a quailback? I used lots of stuff, but what worked was a 1/4 oz. blue jig head with big fathead. Also used a stinger due to others talkin about a light bite.
