Hi all,
Ice conditions are excellent unfortunately the bite has been slow much of this week. Severly cold temps have really shut down the walleyes, for most of the anglers I have talked to. Late January has always been a tough time for walleyes on Vermilion and it seems this year is no different. Much of the action has been along deep transision areas going from the base of mainlake points and reefs, to the soft mud and marl of the basin.
I have been fishing depths of 24 to 35ft to get my fish this week. I haven’t heard of anyone finding fish much under 20ft, except for pike. Slow jigging and deadsticking has worked the best in my shack.
I have been using glow devils and small airplane jigs in the bright colors for all of my action. My tip-ups haven’t been as effective as they were earlier this winter. I’m still catching some fish, however they are pike now instead of walleyes. Rainbows have to be the go to bait right now, I have not had to much luck with chubs or suckers lately. It doesn’t seem to matter if you use a whole minnow or just a head.
They are just very very slow most of the day until the late afternoon, then they pick up until dark.

Thanks for the report Terry!
Enjoying those frigid temps up there this week..
