Mississippi River Pool 4 Walleye Report 11-26-09

Happy Thanksgiving I hope everyone had a great time with friend and family. God bless our Troops!

Well Mike Anderson made it down for some November outings.
The bite for big fish in my boat has been sporadic to say the least.

The numbers fish are up and limits are good. We have been 3-way rigging with raps and miller rigs. But my favorite presentation is dragging jigs and it is finally under way.

This first photo is of Mike with his November lizard walleye. This fish smacked a 1/8 oz jig(orange with a pumpkin Chartreuse tail) dragged in 11 feet of water.

The water temps have been all over the place in the last 30 days and so has the flow. Looking for current seams and sand edges has been our best success with the dragging bite. When that turned slow we would go out and dredge the deep water with raps.

Also for my boat the bite has been best in the low light early and late which can be a chilling experience.

This next photo is Mike with a nice limit of saugers.

Mike and I have been doing a lot of pitching jigs, to rock and to sand breaks and our success rate has been minimal. But some habits are hard to break. The plastics bite is picking up in my boat all our fish the last three days have come on Worms, Doos, Paddle tails, lizards,or Deans new twister.

We arrived at Evert’s and Dean always has stuff on the counter, walls, draws, hidden on top of coolers…anyway you get the picture. Mike and I see these twister tails on the desk and of course Mike needs a package, you never have too many plastics. We are on the water getting ready to make a dragging pass, Mike ties on a Deans twisty thing and I say you know that is an unproven bait. He whacks three fish on the first pass and I shut up.

This next fish was taken on a ringworm Oyster shell.

Last Monday I had my friend Jerie out and he bested me this day with a buck tail tipped with a minnow pitched to the base of some rock. The last two weeks has had its ups and downs with the weather being so sporadic. You get a pattern started and wham front comes in and you are starting over. We have been putting fish in the boat but not the number of big girls that I would like.
Jerie thanks for coming along on this day and putting a whop pin on me. It was fun.
