6 of us spent a few days at LOTW, staying at Schuster’s resort. The fishing was a bit on the slow side compared to past years. The numbers were down to each house getting 7-10 "keepers" each day. The average size was down for as well, with a 17" being the biggest caught. The fish that took the set lines seemed to prefer a glow with either blue, pink or purple combo or a plain white hook. They were barly taking the bobber down, and if you waited for the bobber to reach the bottom of the ice, they would usually spit it. The fish got jigging came mainly on a glow/purple spoon tipped with a fathead. Each day we managed a few bonus perch like this one. There were also plenty of tulibee and eelpout to go around. ‘Pout over 7lbs were caught, and while fun to real in, can be a real dissapointment when you are hoping for that big ‘eye!
I’m sure the weather played a big role in our sub par fishing. With 8" of snow and then blinding winds and temps in the teens below 0 for highs, it wasn’t the greatest. There were quite a few snow drifts and we saw 2 Bombadiers get stuck. There lokked to be 12-16" of ice, but be careful. We also saw a truck over Pine Island find a crack and drop the rear axle in. 3 Bombadiers and lost of pulling later he was back on his way.
NICE REPORT MIKE.
