Lake wisconsin sauger and crappie report.

I started fishing at noon with my clients Steve and Mike. The weather was calling for sunny and 74 degrees but we had clouds and cool conditions to start out with. The barometer was 30.04 and steady which could make for a good day fishing. We started trolling with shad raps and cleos in various colors at the edge of the weeds and the old river bed. Made 3 passes at different depths with no suucess trolling so we set up for some jigging and lindy rigging.

We went to the train tressel and was pitching 1/8 once jigs in the standup version with orange and pink being the hot colors for the day. The water depth was 20 to 26 feet deep in this location. We got 1 nice crappie at this location and missed a couple of other fish but the wind was too strong to stay in the right location. So we moved to a better location to try some drifting with the wind .

At the new location the wind was much lighter and the sun was peaking out and it was warming up finally. We put out 2 poles a person and were dragging the lindy riggs with minnows and leeches. The jig poles were tipped with minnows and were jigged slightly and just dragged also. On the first drift in water depth of 9 to 16 feet of water Mike pulled in a nice sauger of 15 1/4 inches and also a 13 inch crappie. We made some more drifts in the same area and the bite was on. More crappies , walleyes and saugers and stripers. Also picked up some nice gills on the jig and minnows. We were using split shot and beads and small tru-turn hooks on the lindy rigs seeing the fish were hitting so light . The jigs we used were in the 1/8 once size.

Overall had a great day with 2 new freinds fishing and some great company for the afternoon. We had 7 nice crappies , 5 nice gills , a stiper, and had walleyes and saugers ranging in size from 12 inches to 19 1/4 inches .
