Hi All,
The walleye action continues to be very good this week here on the Big V. Ice conditions are good with 18 to 20" of good ice in most areas. There is very little snow cover, so driving around is easy but the ice surface is very slick.
The most consistent action for me, has been along deep shoreline breaks and mainlake points in 20 to 35ft. Rock to gravel or gravel to mud transision zones have been very active locations. Look for the shap drop off the structure to these areas, they have been the most productive.
The best presentations have been Glo devils, jigs and spoons with bright color patterns. I have also had some luck with tip-ups with a plain hook tipped wth a small sucker minnow. My go to colors are gold and charturce but white and yellow have also been good. The early dawn bite has slowed down a bit in recent days however, the evening bite is still very good. Prime time has been between 4:00pm and 9:00pm for most of the anglers I have talked to this week.
Lots of good acion on Northern Pike all this week in many areas of the lake. deep weed lines and the shoreline breaks in 6ft to 14ft, have been the hot spots. Tip-ups or hair jigs, tipped with suckers or a frozen smelt have been very effective for me.
The action just below the ice has been hot, large pike will look for dead bait floating just below the ice surface. Run a tip-up at 4ft to 6ft to take advantage of this big fish oppotunity.
Have a great week everybody, get out and catch the fish of your dreams and then let it go.
